Counselling

What is counselling?
As a therapist I encourage others to make sense of what are often confusing and overwhelming human emotions. In our culture, feelings such as joy, love, and compassion are welcomed but we often feel alone with ‘unwelcome’ feelings such as anger, guilt, jealousy and despair. I believe that all feelings are part of being human. Talking through our issues can enable us to understand these feelings and help us work through them. By discovering how to connect with our inner strengths we are able to make healthier life choices.
How can counselling help?
Professional counselling can offer support to people undergoing professional medical treatment and can be a valuable part of the ‘holistic’ mix of healthcare services to which patients can be referred.
Through our relationship we can engage in conversations that unlock emotions and behavioural patterns to achieve a greater personal understanding.
Understanding oneself can have a positive benefit by:
• Changing unwanted patterns of behaviour
• Discovering new coping strategies
• Developing self esteem
• Improving personal relationships
