Sports Massage and Sports Injury Therapy in Bristol

Sports Massage Therapy at C1 in Central Bristol

Our sports massage team, Ben Tolson, Sian Osborne, Katie Breeze and Ellie Nashat are great at preparing you for your big event and putting you back together after it, be it the Bristol Moon Walk or something more challenging such as a 'Tough Guy' event. So, if you are unable to train or exercise as fully as you would like then call us and let's get you right and as quickly as possible.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is the term applied to the practise of using deep tissue massage to improve how your muscles work especially if you are suffering from any problems, most typically, as a result of participating in a sport, so that you can get back to training quickly and safely.  Sports massage also covers the management of the rest of your body’s soft tissue structures, such as your tendons and ligaments, as well as your sore muscles. It has a real and proven benefit if you are involved in sport at any level or doing any form of exercise as it gets you working well and recovering quickly if you are not.

Sports massage is perfect if you are suffering from a niggling injury that may be preventing you from training or enjoying every day activities.  It is also good for constantly tired, aching muscles, such as those caused at work and if you want to relieve the build up of stress affecting any other specific part of your body.

Sports massage has some overlap with Sports Injury Therapy, which is covered in more detail a bit later on this page if you specifically need to know about it.

But sports massage is not just for athletes, is for anyone who is serious about their general health and wellbeing and its benefits include:

  • The relief of any stiff, aching muscles, (and it's proven to be 5 times more effective at combating fatigue than resting)
  • The stretching and broadening of muscles for maximum performance
  • The breaking down of any scar tissue, improving your range of movement and your flexibility
  • Improving your recovery time
  • Preventing further injuries
  • The boosting of your immune system so decreasing the possibilities of fever, viral infections and tension headaches
  • It can also increase blood flow, improving skin condition and colour
  • It stimulates circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • And improves performance, keeping muscles at their optimum condition

Sports Injury Therapy

Sports Injury Therapy is an effective way to treat either your acute or long term sporting injuries as well as other soft tissue injuries. The focus is mainly on sports related injury but Sports Injury Therapy is not just for sporting individuals, anyone can benefit from treatments.

Sports Injury Therapy is a part of the care we provide at C1 that is specifically concerned with the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation if an injury has occurred. The goal is to get you back to optimum levels of function and sports specific fitness irrespective of your age and sporting ability - so, if you have fallen off your bike on the way to work we may well be able to help.

It consists of biomechanical assessment, muscle testing, posture analysis, massage techniques and rehabilitation exercise therapy.

We currently work with elite and non-elite, sporting and non-sporting individuals. We see running, rowing , riding and martial arts injuries on a regular basis and we care for a group of runners in Team Bath aiming for the Olympics so we know what we are doing and are trusted to do it by people who know their game.

City of Bristol Rowing Club

We have been providing care, advice and training for the City of Bristol Rowing Club with some success.  We started looking after them five years ago and Rebecca, one of our Sports Injury Therapists, lead several circuit training sessions for them.  They started to win things (which we naturally put down to all out work) and made it through to Henley Regatta for the last couple of years and to the semi-finals last year.  This in itself is a fantastic achievement as the competition is severe and only the really best teams get invited along.

This year they won the veterans Head of the River race, which is a killer race over the same distance and course but the other way as the Boat Race.

Rowing is a really tough sport.  It demands one of the highest levels of commitment, exceeded I think only by Tour de France level cycling, to achieve anything and the damage it can do to the rowers is spectacular.  So, we have been providing chiropractic care and sports massage for them to keep them training and winning.

So, if you have a problem that is affecting your training then give us a call and let's see, if together, we can't sort the problem out and get you back to training as quickly as posible.
